For Immediate Release — Jun. 23, 2016

SEATTLE, Wash. — On Monday, June 20, The Seattle Times launched its Under Our Skin project as part of an effort to deepen public discussion and understanding of race, a subject that has dominated headlines recently in coverage about police shootings, campus protests and the presidential race. The project includes 12 videos that focus on a single word or phrase, with interviewees explaining what those terms mean to them.

The Under Our Skin team will host a moderated Reddit discussion about the project today, June 23, from 1 p.m to 2 p.m. A group of Seattle Times staff will be available to answer questions about the project, including how the project got started, why we decided to tackle this topic using this format and what we learned from doing the project. A few of the interviewees featured in the project will also be available to answer questions.

The Seattle Times also invites viewers to share reactions to the project by submitting responses to each video, writing guest essays and/or suggesting ideas for future coverage by e-mailing underourskin@seattletimes.com.

Join the conversation by visiting the AMA at http://reddit.com/r/IAMA.
